Nepal Jyotish TeamWhat Is Pancha Mahapurusha Yoga?
Pancha means five. Mahapurusha means great person. These five special Raja Yogas are formed when one of five planets — Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, or Saturn — occupies its own sign or exaltation sign while placed in a Kendra house (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th) of the birth chart.
Each planet creates a distinct yoga with its own character, qualities, and life outcomes.
The Five Yogas
1. Ruchaka Yoga — Mars
Mars in its own (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn) sign in a Kendra. The native is physically strong, bold, and a natural commander. Success in military, sports, administration, or any field requiring courage and decisive action.
2. Bhadra Yoga — Mercury
Mercury in its own (Gemini, Virgo) or exalted (Virgo) sign in a Kendra. Exceptional intelligence, commercial acumen, and communicative brilliance. Careers in finance, writing, education, and technology flourish.
3. Hamsa Yoga — Jupiter
Jupiter in its own (Sagittarius, Pisces) or exalted (Cancer) sign in a Kendra. A deeply philosophical and benevolent nature, high respect from society, and often a spiritual or advisory role. The most sattvic of the five.
4. Malavya Yoga — Venus
Venus in its own (Taurus, Libra) or exalted (Pisces) sign in a Kendra. Beauty, artistry, luxury, and a refined taste for life's pleasures. Success in creative fields — music, fashion, cinema, hospitality.
5. Shasha Yoga — Saturn
Saturn in its own (Capricorn, Aquarius) or exalted (Libra) sign in a Kendra. A disciplined, justice-oriented personality. Patient, hardworking, and capable of building great things over time. Often rises to positions of systemic power.
Why These Yogas Are Rare in Full Strength
Having the yoga is common. Having it active is not. If the yoga-forming planet is combust, placed in a hostile Navamsha (D9 chart), or afflicted by malefics, the yoga is classified as Nishphala (fruitless) or Yog-Bhanga (canceled).
The same Mars that gives Ruchaka Yoga in Aries can produce a very different result if debilitated in Navamsha or hemmed in by malefics.
