Phidim Shiv Mandir

Siddheshwar Shivalaya Temple (locally known as Phidim Shiv Mandir), located in the 'Purano Shanibare' area of Phidim, the headquarters of Panchthar district, is a major religious and tourist site of this region. This temple is famous for the worship of Lord Shiva and is established as the religious identity of Panchthar.

History

The history and development of Phidim Shiv Mandir are as follows:

• Establishment: This temple was built in 2036 BS. It was established through the initiative of the then Chief District Officer Baleshwar Prasad Singh and the active participation of local social workers.
• Reconstruction: After the temple complex became dilapidated over time, its grand reconstruction and renovation were carried out in the 2080s BS with the financial support of Phidim Municipality and locals.
• Religious Confluence: A grand statue of Mahaguru Phalgunanda, the founder of Kirat religion and a social reformer, has been constructed in the temple complex, which reflects the cultural coordination and religious tolerance between Hindu and Kirat religions here.

Architecture and Structure

The structure of the temple has been made modern and attractive:

• Style: The original framework of the temple is based on the influence of the traditional Nepali pagoda style.
• Features: Marble and tiles have been applied to the inner and outer parts of the temple, while artistic struts have increased its beauty.
• Complex: Arrangements for a Havan Kunda, a stage for Bhajan-Kirtan, and a guest house for pilgrims coming from far away have been made in the temple complex.
