Risheshwar Mahadev (Daman)

Risheshwar Mahadev Temple, located between Daman and Simbhanjyang of Makwanpur district, is an extremely important religious and tourist site. Located at an altitude of about 2,584 meters above sea level, this temple is surrounded by natural beauty and a peaceful environment.

Mythological Story and Religious Importance

• Confluence of Hinduism and Buddhism: Hindus worship Risheshwar Mahadev as the ancient residence of Lord Shiva, while Buddhist devotees connect it with the great master Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). According to Buddhist tradition, Guru Rinpoche meditated here in the 8th century, and it is believed that a sacred water source (Chumig Jangchub) emerged when he struck his cane here.
• Birth of King Mahendra: According to a popular legend, the then King Tribhuvan had worshipped here wishing for children, as a result of which it is a popular belief that King Mahendra was born.
• Meditation Site: This place has been known as a center for sages to meditate and perform penance since ancient times, which is why its name became 'Risheshwar' (Lord of Sages).

Architecture and Features

• Simple Nepali Style: The architecture of the temple is simple and in the traditional Nepali style. It is located as a small and quiet structure in the middle of a dense forest.
• Sacred Spout: There is a natural stone spout in the temple complex, which is considered extremely sacred. Devotees worship only after bathing here.
• Natural Beauty: Panoramic views of mountain ranges like Everest, Manaslu, and Annapurna can be seen from here.

• Mahashivaratri: A large crowd of devotees gathers here on the day of Mahashivaratri.
• Shrawan Month: Special worship is performed here on every Monday of Shrawan.
